Beginning Backcountry Adventure

Description: Try a short, 2 hr backcountry trek within Santa Fe National Park.  Let me show you what I love about the Park – Huge towering rainforest trees intertwined with vines.  Bromeliads. Clear Rivers and yes, even mud! We will enter into little used trails, footpaths, and even go off trail with a section of river hiking to a waterfall.

Our pace will be unhurried, as we take time to look at “interesting and fun stuff!”    Good for families or groups with mixed abilities-but still mobile.  There will be uneven terrain, steep slopes and some river scrambling.  Naturalist guide. Difficulty: 2.5/5

Cost: $45pp

River Hiking in Santa Fe National Park (Intermediate)

Description: Jungle river hike to remote waterfalls.  River hiking can be challenging and fun!  Half-day semi-strenuous hiking experience into the rainforest, where we hike 3km round trip, up river to a remote waterfall.  This requires hiking through water (we provide boots), climbing rocks, with a different route as the river changes.  Because of the size of the boulders we climb, it is not suitable for those under 48″. Difficulty: 4/5

Cost: $55 pp/half day

ForestTrek

National Park Trek

Description:  Between the three of us, we have named five waterfalls in the Santa Fe Region. What we do for fun is disappear in the rainforest for a few hours, exploring, trekking, and enjoying the beauty of these remote lands. Our National Park Treks go off trails into the backcountry in Santa Fe National Park.  These treks are beautiful, unique and may include both river trekking and mountain trekking and are 6-8 hours in length.

For this season, we are doing Cerro Mariposa and Santa Fe National Park Waterfall Backcountry as Destinations.

Difficulty: 5/5

Cost: $85pp

River Trek for Kids

Description:    As a mom, I often would try to take our 9 year old out on treks with me, over the years, only to find that traditional hikes are not his thing.  But he enjoys the beauty of the forest. This activity is focused on children ages 4-12 and their families who, like my son, prefer adventuring and scrambling rather than hiking on trails.  We use a shallow river in the wilderness as our trail and enter into Santa Fe National Park, spotting towering trees, many lianas as we trek over boulders and rocks, walking up small waterfalls, seeing clear pool jungle pools where we stop to try natural waterslides in the rocks and admire insects and birds.  Safety is important on this trek, so your child should be of an ability to follow guide’s or parent’s directions.  2.5 hrs. 2.5/5 difficulty.  No backpack carriers.

Cost: $45pp
